Barbara A. Wegner

Barbara Ann (Kelly) Wegner, age 78 of Cozad, Nebraska passed away February 21st, 2021 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska due to complications of heart disease. Barbara was born in Omaha to Earl and Esther (Dinslage) Kelly and spent her childhood in Scribner, Nebraska.

Following graduation from Scribner High School in 1960, Barb worked at Mutual of Omaha and later at Metropolitan Community College. While working at the college, she earned an associate degree. Later, Barb continued her education at Bellevue University, earning both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. She continued working in various departments at Metro Community College.

Eventually Barb would move to Cozad, Nebraska and worked with the Nebraska Area Agency on Aging. She enjoyed helping seniors find employment and assisting them with Medicare programs and other resources. Barb also volunteered with the “Meals on Wheels” program, as well as the Red Cross Disaster Team, which led her to various parts of the United States. She served on the State Advisory Board of West Central Agency on Aging.

Traveling was one of Barb’s greatest passions. She was always ready to go on any road trip, including several visits to her sisters in Arizona and Oregon, international travel and numerous trips to her nieces and nephews’ weddings, showers and school or college activities.

Barb is survived by her daughter Michelle Guthrie of Omaha; granddaughter Jessica Boyes of Sioux City, Iowa; sisters Sharon Kauble-Lemon of Roseburg, Oregon; Jean (Mike) Muller of Goodyear, Arizona; Jackie (Mike) Burkink of Cozad, Nebraska; Toni (Rick) Smeal of Snyder, Nebraska; brother Mike (Deb) Kelly of O’Neill, Nebraska; sister-in-law Patsy Kelly of Hastings, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Tim Wegner, sister Rose Mary Klamt, and brother Tom Kelly.

Memorials may be sent to the Grand Generation Center, 410 W 9th St, Cozad, NE 69130, a place that Barb was very fond of. A private celebration of life will take place at a later time.
