Dr. Robert S. Hranac

Cozad Graduate:

Dr. Robert Stephen Hranac was called to heaven early, but he squeezed 90 years of living into 70 years of life. He left with no regrets. He loved being a Doctor and was well respected in Estherville, Iowa where he served for 40 years. He passed away on March 14th, 2019 at home. He was born to Dr. Charles Eugene Hranac and Barbara Olive Green on January 30th, 1949 in Lexington, Nebraska.

He grew up and attended schools in Cozad, Nebraska. Graduating Cozad High School in 1967. He then went on to attend the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska as well as the University of Nebraska Medical School in Omaha, Nebraska graduating in 1975. He followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming a family physician. He did his family practice residency in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In July of 1978 he moved to Estherville, Iowa and joined the Estherville Medical Center serving as a family practice doctor for 40 years. He derived much happiness from being a small-town doctor and one of his greatest joys was delivering babies. He was united in marriage to Patricia Ryan-Kinnard on October 26,th 1984. He was an avid sports fan, who loved the Nebraska Huskers as well as the Penn State University Wrestling program. His hobbies included traveling on cruises, playing golf, spending time with family and friends, reading WWII books and most of all being a fun-loving grandpa.

Robert is survived by his wife Patricia; his children: Christy and Dan Schwankl of Carver, Minnesota, Rob Hranac and Jenny Bent of Petaluma, California, Rebecca and Adam Avery of Van Nuys, California, Kelly and Cael Sanderson of State College, Pennsylvania, Ann and Ryan West of Olathe, Kansas and Carmen and Jon Westbrook of Rome, Italy; his siblings: Dr. Richard Hranac of Kearney, Nebraska, Dr. Joseph Hranac of Lincoln, Nebraska and John Hranac of Golden, Colorado; and 14 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents: Charles and Barbara Hranac; and an infant brother.

Services will be held at the J. Warren Funeral Home in Casa Grande Arizona on March 30th, 2019 at 1:00 pm. There will be a celebration of life following the services.

A memorial service is being planned in Estherville, Iowa for this summer.
