Don A. Chandler

Don A Chandler was born July 12th, 1931, to Lloyd and Edna (Mills) Chandler in Ansley, Nebraska. He attended schools in Ansley and Anselmo NE and Wentworth Military Academy and graduated from Ansley HS in 1949. He married Dixie Burns on September 28th, 1951, and to this union three children were born-- son Stephen and twin daughters Joan and Jerre.

He began college at Kearney State, with the goal of becoming a pharmacist as his father and grandfather. He enlisted in the US Navy and served as a Hospital Corpsman to had family responsibilities, he began employment as a pharmaceutical sales rep with Lincoln Drug, where he waked for many years. He completed his career at CD Smith, retiring in 1999.

In later years of her life, Don cared for his wife Dixie, who suffered from health issues, and she died in 1983. On June 6th, 1985, Don married Jane Grabenstein, and they spent the next 28 years traveling the world, beginning with a honeymoon cruise from New York to the Bahamas. They also enjoyed 17 Elderhostels, in the process visiling every state except ND. Don became a very good cook and his grilled salmon and brisket were second to none. He volunteered at the VA and he and Jane ushered for many years at the Lied Center. In later years, his health gradually declined, and he spent the last two months in the care of St Croix Hospice at Journey House.

Don was a 50+ year member of Masonic Lodge 210, Scottish Rite, American Legion, and Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Grabenstein-Chandler of Lincoln NE; son Steve (Patty) of Phoenix, AZ; daughters Joan (Bob) Schick of Cheyenne WY, and Jerre (Gene) Kirchhoff of Lincoln NE; step son Brent (Kelly) Gengenbach of Eustis NE, step daughter Janine (Scott) Porter of Wichita KS; Grandsons James (Amy) Schick of Cheyne WY, Blake (Brooke) Gengenbach of Eustis, NE; granddaughters Lauren (Tanner) Anderson of Omaha NE, Courtney (Brant) Arends of Eustis NE, Kyle Porter of Lawrence KS; 8 great grandchildren (soon to be 10); sister Elaine (Ernie) Baresh of Lincoln NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dixie Chandler and sister I arise Ranier.

Memorial service was held at 11:00 am, Friday, March 19th, 2021 at Weci minster Presbyterian Church, 2110 Sheridan Blvd.

Per Don’s wishes, his ashes will be scattered at sea.
