BATTLING AT the net is Cozad’s Carissa Jensen against Swedes Kendal Wahlgren and Amaya Ackerman.

With all the chips pushed to the middle of the table, the Gothenburg and Cozad netters were set to compete to play in the C1-11 Sub-district Volleyball Tournament that was held in Brady on Monday.

In the first net action of the evening, the Lady Haymakers went toe-to-toe with familiar foe Gothenburg. The Lady Swedes were able to weather the storm and earn the hard-fought, 25-13,25-16 and 25-12 victory over Cozad.

The score remained close during the first half of all three sets being separated by one to two points, before the strong serving of the Lady Swedes created a cushion on the scoreboard that resulted in a victory for the Gothenburg netters.

As a result of their first round win, the Lady Swedes would challenge top seeded Ogallala in the second round. Playing with great gumption and intensity, the Lady Swedes put a scare into the Ogallala netters before the Lady Indians were able to escape with the win, 19-25, 25-12, 25-21 and 25-16.

The strong serving and fearless hitting attack of the Lady Swedes kept the score close throughout.
