REDS CLASH WITH LEXINGTON

Getting the home campaign started with a rivalry renewal were the Reds as they clashed with Dawson County foe, Lexington in a Juniors/Seniors doubleheader on Tuesday evening at Muni Park in Cozad.

The Lexington Juniors were able to flex their offensive muscles in a 15-5 victory over the Reds during Tuesday evenings home opener for the Reds.

In the opening inning, Lexington got scoring from Drew Hanson, Jackson Konrad and Levi Converse, as they all earned walks and circled the sacks to make the score 3-0 at the midway point of the first inning.

Melons Explode Offensively In Victories Over Holdrege

Defending their home turf, the Melons were able to sweep the night in a Juniors/Seniors double-dip against Holdrege in Gothenburg on Thursday evening.

Scoring in bunches was the formula for success that powered the Melons Juniors to a 14-9 win over Holdrege.

Holdrege threatened to score in the first frame, as Cade Kirwan ventured around the bases after being walked but two straight strikeouts thrown by Trey Stevens kept the score at 0-0.

Climbing onto the podium to finish the season is the goal of all tracksters and for a select few, they earned that priviledge at the 2021 Nebraska High School State Track and Field Boys Championships that were held at Omaha Burke Stadium on Friday and Saturday.

Leading the way for all of the TRIBUNE-Area finishers was Gothenburg’s Jake Burge and Ian Salazar of Lexington at the Nebraska State Championships.

Flirting with defying gravity, Gothenburg’s Jake Burge reached new heights by soaring over 14’0” to earn the fifth place medal in the pole vault.
